Patient Information

Start with what
you need to know.

Cosmetic Surgery — Patient Safety

Good decisions need room.

The cosmetic surgery pathway: GP Referral, then Two Pre-operative Consultations, then Informed Consent, then a minimum 7-day cooling-off, and only then Surgery.

Current Australian Medical Board and Ahpra cosmetic-surgery guidance requires a referral, at least two pre-operative consultations, informed consent and a cooling-off period before surgery. These requirements apply to cosmetic surgery and are distinguished from reconstructive surgery.

Cost Clarity

Know the cost
before you decide.

Fees, Medicare rebates and private health fund benefits vary according to the procedure and whether treatment has a medical indication. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by Medicare.
